It’s the first of November – a time of rainy, windy days and cold, blustery evenings. Tomorrow we change our clocks back to gain a bit of morning light, but early risers will still wake in the dark, and dusk will come far too soon. As we approach Remembrance Day, there’s a sense of quiet reflection in the air. But before we know it, we’ll be swept into the festive season, with all the gatherings, shopping, and endless to-do lists leading up to Christmas.
Before the holiday rush truly begins, November offers us a precious chance to slow down and recharge. It’s a month to embrace the calm and to take a little extra care of ourselves. This pause between seasons is the perfect opportunity to reflect, unwind, and prepare ourselves for the joyful – but often hectic – weeks ahead.
While the days may feel shorter, November brings a gentle invitation to savour quieter moments. Consider setting aside time each day to do something simple that nourishes you, my friend. Brew a favourite tea, curl up with a cozy blanket, or enjoy a warm meal with loved ones. The slower rhythm of this season allows us to reflect, reconnect, and to take a break before December’s festivities.
With my own schedule about to pick up, I’m especially grateful for this time. Starting next weekend and right through to Christmas, I’ll be at various fairs and markets, offering a selection of my small-batch preserves and homemade treats. It’s a busy season, but I love sharing these creations and connecting with all of you. These fairs are the perfect opportunity to find unique, locally made gifts for your loved ones or something special to add to your holiday table.
To help make the most of this peaceful time, consider a few small rituals to bring a sense of calm into your November days. Take a quiet walk and let the crisp air refresh and ground you as you notice the sights and sounds around you. Treat yourself to something cozy, perhaps a favourite tea or coffee paired with a slice of toast spread with CranRaspberry jam—this little indulgence can bring warmth and comfort. November also offers a valuable moment to reflect on the year, giving you the chance to pause and to think about what you’re grateful for. Take a moment to acknowledge the memories and experiences that have brought you joy this year. These small, mindful practices can help us feel more centred and ready for the busyness that December brings.
If you’re looking for a unique gift, a special treat, or just a chance to say hello, I’d love to see you at one of the upcoming fairs. I’ve pinned the list on my FB page. I’ll be there with a selection of preserves made from fresh, local ingredients – perfect for gifts or for adding a homemade touch to your holiday table. This season, let’s take time to enjoy the journey and not rush the beauty of this quieter month. I hope to bring you a bit of warmth, flavour, and joy!
So, let’s embrace this calm before the holiday storm. Take a deep breath, find moments to recharge, and savour the simple joys of the season. See you soon – and here’s to a wonderfully peaceful November!
