Spring. It’s finally here, perhaps even a little earlier than is the norm.
It seems to have burst upon us with eagerness and exuberance – I am so glad!
This last year presented us all with many challenges – as individuals and as a community – and though it may have felt like we were stuck in place, learning how to keep going with everything that was coming at us every day – we kept inching forward, throughout the long winter, waiting for better days, looking for ways to thrive through it all. I kept myself busy making cards to send to friends, reading good books and playing in my kitchen. I also learned a lot – as I would imagine, we all did. We learned more about, and mastered, technology we once thought beyond us – to work from home, to be entertained, to learn, and to feel less alone. We found safe ways to “see” loved ones and to help where we were needed despite lockdowns and restrictions. We recognized how hectic our pace of life was “before” and how we could slow it down, giving ourselves time for meaningful thought and reflection, for trying out new hobbies, reading new books and taking longer walks. We recognized the treasure that is our family.
And well, guess what? We made it!
And well, guess what? We made it!
The beautiful weather is here and I want to enjoy the warm embrace of Spring with its mild winds and gentle rains, its wonderful radiant sun. The birds are chirping, the grass is greening and the trees are budding. Everyone seems to be smiling.
I walked around in my gardens this week and I could see all the new growth shooting up out of the warming earth; the crocuses and snowdrops are blooming, the tips of all the daffodils are pushing though, the garlic is up already! Mr Griffin had a field day sniffing at the rabbit hole in the long grasses in the front garden.
And though we’re in the third wave of this pandemic, more and more people are getting the vaccines. There’s a measure of peace of mind that comes as those numbers grow.
And my sweetheart bought me tulips, so I continue to count my blessings.
And to make my preserves, of course.
